Hi, everyone. I’m Motoki Ono. The building I chosen to introduce is Weisman Art Museum. The reason I chosen it is that I went to Minneapolis in the last March to visit my relatives. However regrettably I didn’t know about the existence of Weisman Art Museum, so I failed to visit here! When I found the name and the place in the web site, I became so sad, but I also want to try the research about this museum.
The name of this building was based on the enterpriser Frederick R. Weisman, who is contributed to foundation of this museum. This building is located in Minneapolis in the US and was made for Minnesota University. This building is used for, of course, the Art Museum. This building was built in 1991, and Frank Gehry won a famous Progressive Architecture Design Award in this year. Then Home to the museum since 1993, this important architectural achievement has become a landmark for the University of Minnesota and the Twin Cities.
Actually it took a long time to select the main director of Weisman Art Museum in order to decide the most suitable person. But after such a selection process, Frank Gerhy was chosen. Lyndel King, director of the Weisman Art Museum, said that Gehry was chosen as the architect because he “showed that he really understood the mission and the dream of the museum.” The mission is that “The Weisman Art Museum at the University of Minnesota creates art experiences that spark discovery, critical thinking, and transformation, linking the University and the community.”
In my opinion, this building is certainly matched the mission of this Weisman Art Museum. It is not enough to just collect the good works in the ordinary building. Collecting good works in the outstanding building is meaningful as the art museum. It is because the atmosphere is related to the point of view against the works. Then the building is the most important of component to make the atmosphere. Frank Gehry’s building must makes the university students more creative and to spark discovery. This Weisman Art Museum has contributed to not only the advertisement for admittance but also the incentive for the Minnesota university students and neighborhood.
After all, I’m regretting that I didn't go there.
You miss visiting it!!! But you can visit your relatives again and can see it. I wonder what is like in the building. It looks difficult to use, but Frank Gehry designed it. So it never happens. I wonder…please visit there and tell me.

By reading your work, I thought an architect is a very different job. They have to have very wide range of culture. Also, they have to have an ingenious imagination. They have to answer client's needs too. I think this is why most of architects graduate from good university or graduate school.

This building is going to be the first place to visit when you go to see your reletive. I thought Frank Gehry is really great person. He is not just make what he wants to creat, but also he make what is needed. He made along requests.

I am sure that this Frank Gehry’s building makes not only the university students but also people living around this one feel really motivated. I bet works which have a possibility that affect and move people are the real archirtecture.

Wow, this is amazing! It sounds like the mission of the building is the same as that of Bilbao museum in Spain (see my comment on Takuya's blog): the building and the purpose should be a good fit, so that the people who use it can feel comfortable. As our textbook said, a good building should not only be strong, but suitable to the purpose - be functional, and also be beautiful. I think this building fulfills all three criteria. What a shame you didn't go there when you were in Minnesota - I guess you will have to go back!

Frank Gehry built.His work stimulates our imagination very much and impressive.
Also,he had various problems because of the difference his style from conventional style.
However,to continue to believe his own style is
worthy of praise,I think.
